Summer Rind Formula

A shaded terracotta counter on a hot afternoon — a glass bowl of crushed ice with thin slices of lemon and white peach, a sprig of lily of the valley and a few jasmine flowers. The first breath is cool and juicy: bright lemon peel, a burst of green apple and pineapple, freshly cut grass and a faint chill of mint. Then the fruit softens into flowers — velvety peach, a touch of strawberry and raspberry, a fruity rose and violet, clean white blossoms and a quiet, watery hint of melon. It settles into a soft, apple-like wood with a little coconut cream and vanilla: fresh, juicy and light, like summer fruit kept cold.
