Gilded Pear Formula

An old parlour in the evening, a lamp turned low. On the polished table, one ripe pear catches the light beside a few white flowers and a small sandalwood box. The first breath is bright and golden — bergamot, sweet orange and a twist of lemon peel with a soft, waxy sparkle — and through it a fresh, juicy pear, still green at the stem. Then the white flowers open: a moist lily of the valley, round jasmine and a honeyed rose, dusted with violet and iris powder. As it dries, it settles into a warm oriental glow of creamy sandalwood, dry cedar, soft musk, sweet hay and vanilla — golden, powdery and quietly luminous, like the last light of a lamp on polished wood.
