Lifting the opening

Almost a quarter of this formula is citrus: lemon, bergamot and a few sharper peel notes. Citrus is the quickest part of any scent to fade, so here it is not left alone — almost the same weight of dry woods and moss sits below it, and a heart of white flowers between them carries the brightness down, like late-morning light crossing a raked gravel garden onto a dark stone.

Contrast

How contrast keeps both ends clear: a cool, sparkling top and a dry, shaded base are set almost equal, so neither swallows the other — each makes the other read more clearly.

Reading regulations

How a classic material is kept within the rules: a sweet lily-of-the-valley note is used at the highest level that still keeps the suggested fragrance under its European limit, and the moss is a grade cleaned of its restricted parts.
