Transparency

Only about one eighth of this formula is green, spread over nine materials, yet the leaves are what you notice first. The reason is the space around them: about a third of the batch is a transparent, airy jasmine material, and the flowers beside it — a clean floral, a fresh rose and a dewy hyacinth — are clear rather than sweet, so the soft ivy-like green and the sharp grassy notes are never buried.

The power of traces

How a few very strong green and fruity materials, each kept to a trace, add the snap of cut grass, a sharp galbanum spark and a single drop of melon-like water without turning the whole bouquet into a salad.

Working with dilutions

How eight materials are weighed as solutions — seven at one tenth and one at one hundredth — so that even the smallest line of the batch can be measured on an ordinary balance.
