Softening the edges

More than a quarter of this formula is citrus, and its largest citrus material is a clean, lime-like note with a cool, almost metallic sparkle — on its own it smells more of fresh laundry than of fruit. The formula never lets it stand alone: the biggest line of all is a gentle, honeyed petal with a ripe-apple side, and beside it sit a dewy lily-of-the-valley material and a clear, lavender-like floral. Together they give the bright citrus somewhere soft to land, so it reads as a garden after rain rather than a bar of soap.

Lifting the opening

Why a pale white grapefruit, used at a modest dose, is enough to name the opening: its bitter peel sits on top of a much larger clean citrus and gives it a face.

Working with dilutions

How four very strong materials — a ripe peach, a pineapple ester, a dry amber wood and a violet — are weighed as one-in-ten solutions, so each lands as a trace and blends smoothly.
