Seven separate rose materials each bring one side of the flower: a soft petal, a round outline, a fresh green leaf, a drop of honey, a waxy shade and a crystal that stays. Built this way, the rose can be shaped part by part — fresher, rounder or sweeter — like arranging a vase of crimson roses one stem at a time.

Description

The light is low and golden, the hour late. A terracotta wall glows behind a long shelf of walnut wood, where crimson roses stand in smoky glass among soft, ruffled geranium leaves, with cloves in a small black dish and a pale block of cedar beside them. The scent begins briskly — a lavender-like herb, bergamot and lemon peel, polished with a clean note like freshly ironed linen — and within minutes it turns toward the petals. The heart is one deep, velvety rose: fresh in its green leaf, honeyed at its centre, warmed from within by clove and a hint of cinnamon, and softened by a sunlit green and a dusting of almond. Hours later what remains is quieter — polished woods, a shade of moss, dry hay and a soft musk. A study in composing one rose from many parts, and in letting a touch of spice deepen its colour.
