Backbone and seasoning

The two largest lines of this formula carry exactly the same weight: a soft jasmine-petal material and a cool, faintly anise-tinged green wood. Each would pull the bouquet its own way, one toward sweetness and the other toward sharpness, but set side by side they hold each other still, and the roses, lily of the valley and lilac around them stay fresh and upright, like cut stems standing in clear water.

Holding up in a product base

How a floral is built to last through a wash: stable, clean-smelling materials and a round musk that clings to fabric carry the bouquet, so the flowers are still there after the silk has dried and been folded away.

The power of traces

How a very strong green is handled: the sharpest pineapple-rind note is diluted to a tenth before it is weighed, and only a whisper goes in, enough to give the fruit an edge without turning the whole top green.
