Setting the heart

More than a third of this formula is jasmine, split between two materials that work differently. One gives a dry, petal-like body that on its own stays soft and a little waxy; the other is a transparent jasmine air with little body of its own. Together the petal opens and the air gains substance, like long sprays of white jasmine laid on cashmere in a sunlit room.

Close to the skin

How the largest single material, a clean musk, and a group of seven smooth woods keep the flower close to the skin and carry it for hours after the short, bright citrus opening has gone.

Working with dilutions

How ten very strong or restricted materials, among them green apple, bitter almond, peach, carnation and cinnamon, are weighed as one-tenth solutions, so each stays a trace and the carnation stays within its European limit.
