Transparency

More than four tenths of this batch is one family of clear, airy jasmine material, used in two grades and again as the solvent of the small solutions. By itself it smells of very little, a sheer floral air, yet at this weight it works like a bright, empty room: the bergamot-led peel, the quick fruit and the small green notes each stand apart inside it instead of being pressed together into one dense chord.

The power of traces

Why five of the smallest materials are weighed as solutions in that same clear material, three at one in ten and two at one in a hundred: the two weakest dilutions hold an animalic white-flower note and an orange-blossom note so powerful that only a hundredth-strength solution keeps each one a faint glimmer.

Working with dilutions

How a leafy green note and a dry, woody, violet-like note, together less than a hundredth of the batch, bend the clear jasmine toward the feeling of a cup of tea, even though no tea material is used anywhere in the formula.
