The lavender at the front of this formula is not its largest part: the oil, together with the lavender-like alcohol and esters that echo it, makes only about a tenth of the whole. Behind it stand about a third of smooth woods and amber and a clean musk of roughly the same weight as the lavender itself. The lavender still leads because nothing around it competes — the woods are velvety rather than sharp, the musk stays close to the skin, and the white flowers are kept airy. Read the card the way you would read a barber salon in the early morning: one clear smell in the air, with polished wood and clean towels all around it.

Transparency

How the largest single material, a sheer jasmine with almost no petal weight, opens space in the heart so that the lavender, the lily notes and a cyclamen breeze can each be heard.

Reading regulations

How three materials with strict EU limits — a sweet musk, a watery lily note and a fruity rose note, the last used as a tenth-strength solution — are dosed so that both the fine fragrance and the rinse-off wash stay within their limits.
