Building an accord

A white floral usually leans on one flower, and the nose names it at once. Here nearly two thirds of the batch is white flowers, but it is split almost exactly in half: the clear, airy jasmine family against the rosy family with lily of the valley. Because neither family outweighs the other, what you smell is a bouquet, not one bloom. The bright citrus opening and the fine powder underneath are kept small, so they frame the flowers without drawing the eye away from them.

Powdery softness

How a thin veil of heliotrope and violet, together less than a tenth of the batch, softens white flowers into something close and skin-like instead of loud.

Reading regulations

How a strong spicy-floral material is cut back and weighed as a diluted solution, so that both the perfume and the wash stay within the European limit and still keep a soft hint of carnation.
