Lifting the opening

Almost half of this formula is citrus, and most of it rests on just two materials: a clean, cologne-like lime and a sweet orange peel, together close to two fifths of the whole. Each is a single, very pure note — bright, but a little flat on its own. That is why the opening reads so clearly and lifts so fast, and why, once it has gone, the fruity jasmine underneath is ready to take over, like morning light moving across a marble table.

Bringing it to life

How four natural peel oils — bergamot, lime, lemon and grapefruit — used in very small amounts give the single-note citrus the bitterness, zest and juiciness of real fruit.

Bridge notes

How a few clear floral materials with a citrus side — a lilac, a soft lavender-like floral and a sweet pine-wood — stand between the peel and the jasmine, so the opening walks into the flowers without a gap.
