Setting the heart

Fresh colognes usually fade within the hour because nothing is waiting beneath the peel. Here more than a quarter of the batch is citrus and clean, lime-like freshness, but one soft, violet-like floral material, about a fifth of the whole on its own, sits right under it. When the peel lifts, that powder is already in place, and a round musk with smooth woods, together more than a quarter, keeps it close to the skin. The heart is planned before the opening, not after.

The power of traces

How a fruity rose material strong enough to take over is used at less than a thousandth of the batch, diluted before weighing, so that it only adds a glossy shine to the flowers.

Holding up in a product base

How the same bright opening is meant to work at a hundredth in a shampoo or body wash, where a clean, lime-like freshness at about a seventh keeps the citrus crisp against a soapy base.
