Orange Ribbon Formula

Bridge notes

Almost a third of this formula is a single bright orange-zest material, and it is the first to go. Rather than trying to make it last, the formula places a second fresh layer just beneath it: a clean apple-skin material with a dry, woody grain and a clear, lavender-like floral, together about a quarter of the batch. As the zest fades they are already there, and they pass the freshness on to a soft clean musk — like a long ribbon of peel that keeps its curl after the orange is gone.

Holding up in a product base

Why a long-lasting citrus material that keeps its sharp edge for hours, and stays stable in soap and shampoo, lets the wash version still smell of fresh peel at a small dose.

Working with dilutions

How a blackcurrant-bud material of enormous strength is never weighed neat: it goes in as a one-in-ten solution, at a trace, so the fruit feels freshly cut rather than sulphurous.
