Description

In hot places, the slatted shutter is the quiet hero of the house. Folded open in the late morning, it lets in the breeze and the green light of the garden while the glare stays outside, and the whole room takes on the smell of leaves and cool shade. This formula is a portrait of that hour. Its first impression is leafy and lively, like the leaves of an orange tree crushed between the fingers with a squeeze of lemon. Soon the air turns to flowers: pale sprays of lilac and the small white bells of the valley lily, warmed by a blush of rose and dusted with a dry, violet-tinted powder. Later it settles close to the skin on smooth, pale woods and the barest trace of sun-dried grass. A fresh, feminine floral for warm days, as lovely in a fine fragrance as in a body wash.

What you’ll learn from this formula

A flower made of clear parts

how three quiet materials become one white bloom

  • Main skill

    Building an accord

Nearly a fifth of this formula goes into a white flower, yet none of the materials that build it smells like a flower by itself. One is cool and clean, like washed petals; one is dewy and watery; one leans toward lilac and pine. Laid side by side over a floor of pale, see-through woods, they stop reading as separate parts and become a single fresh bloom, light enough to let the leafy opening and the violet powder show through.

  • Supporting skill

    Transparency

How clean, transparent woods placed under a flower give it width and hold rather than weight.

  • Supporting skill

Holding up in a product base

How the same concentrate is balanced for a fine fragrance and for a rinse-off shampoo or wash, where the white bloom still comes through clearly.
