Lifting the opening

Six musks make up about two-fifths of the formula, the largest family by far, and they are slow, heavy materials that stay on the skin for hours. Over them sits a bright top of bergamot, lemon and mandarin with soft floral-citrus notes, under a fifth of the formula but quick to rise. Because the musks are clean and transparent rather than dense, the light top can sit on them like a veil and lift the whole formula when it is first sprayed.

Close to the skin

How several musks of different character — soft and powdery, clean, warm, cool and metallic, velvety, faintly fruity — layer into one skin-close cloud instead of a single flat musk.

The power of traces

How three extremely strong materials — a sea-breeze note, a green leathery note and a clove-carnation spice — are used as diluted solutions at a few hundredths of a percent or less, adding shadow without being noticed one by one.
