Aventus Cologne* Type Formula StudyAventurine Cologne 19 · GA-020384

A cool first breath of freshly pressed bergamot and mandarin peel, the light warmth of ginger and pink pepper, and a brief glimpse of yellow pineapple between them. Beneath, dry woods and earthy patchouli, the finest thread of smoke, and a clean musk that clings to the skin. A bright, cool citrus aromatic woody.

What you’ll learn from this formula

How to keep a bright opening cool

a tiny spice over a broad citrus, and a transparent heart

  • Main skill

    Lifting the opening

People remember this kind of scent for its clear, cool first breath. In this formula the citrus and herb block is about a third of the actual materials, and the single peel material used most takes about a fifth of the whole formula. Yet what keeps that brightness from running sweet is the spice and fruit block right behind it, which is only about a twenty-fourth. That is the lesson: lay the big light broadly, and set its direction with a small block.

  • Supporting skill

    The power of traces

How a tiny amount can lead an impression: the spicy root note everyone remembers is the perfumer’s secret, two materials together at about one two-thousandth of the formula. Each of the materials behind the pineapple impression is less than a thousandth, and the two materials that leave a fine thread of smoke do not reach a thousandth even together. Small materials speak through where they sit, not through how much there is.

  • Supporting skill

    Transparency

How to fill a heart without heavy flowers: the floral block is a little under a fifth of the formula, and four fifths of it are two airy, transparent jasmine materials. Beneath it, about half or a little more of the amber and musk block, about a quarter of the formula, is carried by one clean musk material, so the bright opening goes on long on the skin with no weight.

Description

The first breath opens with the clear, cool light of bergamot and mandarin peel. The sharp warmth of freshly sliced ginger and the light sparkle of pink pepper settle on top, keeping the citrus cool and awake rather than letting it run sweet. A green like mint leaves brushes past for a moment. Soon a ripe pineapple shows very faintly, and dry woods and earthy patchouli hold it from beneath. A smoke like singed birch stays only as a fine line and adds no weight, and with time a clean musk lingers close to the skin. It is described as lighter, cooler and younger than the other scents that share its name, and many say it suits any season and any time of day. This is the impression our perfumer formed on smelling the reference fragrance, written in our own words. It is not a measurement and not the reference fragrance’s formula.
