Silver Mountain Water* Type Formula Study

Silver Mountain Water* Type Formula StudyGlacier Water 95 · GA-020160

A cold first breath of bergamot and lemon peel, the tart shade of blackcurrant and the clear texture of freshly brewed green tea, and beneath them an airy floral as transparent as snowmelt and a freshly washed musk. A citrus tea musk like the clear air of a winter mountain.

What you’ll learn from this formula

How to make a scent of cold water without water

a trace of chilled air over citrus and transparent flowers

  • Main skill

    The power of traces

People remember this kind of scent as cold mountain water and clear air, yet the fruity-green block that draws the chill is less than a hundredth of the formula, and its watery, open-air feeling comes from the perfumer’s secret, used at less than one six-thousandth. Such a small amount can lead because of the clear space around it: a cool citrus and aromatic opening fills about a third of the formula, with a single citrus peel alone about a fifth, and nothing heavy stands in front of it. That is the lesson: coldness is not a loud note but a trace given open room.

  • Supporting skill

    Transparency

How flowers can feel like tea and snowmelt: the floral layer is the largest part of the formula, about two fifths, yet about four fifths of that layer is two transparent jasmine materials that smell more of air than of petals. With a little violet-like warmth beside them, the flowers read as the clear bitterness of tea rather than a bouquet.

  • Supporting skill

    Close to the skin

How a cold scent stays close and clean: about a tenth of the formula is musk, spread across nine different musk-family materials rather than one, so the finish feels like freshly washed skin instead of a single sweet note. With a light woody-amber layer of about a seventh beneath it, the scent stays clear and quiet close to the skin.

Description

The first breath is cold and bright, like bergamot and mandarin peel just twisted open. That sparkle does not linger; soon the tart fruitiness of blackcurrant and the clear bitterness of steeped green tea step forward. A coolness like dipping your hands in cold water runs through the whole scent, and some people perceive that coolness as a chill close to metal. With time, the fruit and tea settle, and a clean musk and a faint sandalwood remain close to the skin. Rather than projecting widely, it stays clear and quiet, and suits the warmer seasons or days when you want a clear head. This is the impression our perfumer formed on smelling the reference fragrance, written in our own words. It is not a measurement and not the reference fragrance’s formula.
