Ombré Leather* Type Formula Study

Ombré Leather* Type Formula StudyDesert Leather 18 · GA-020124

A worn-in suede leather in the dry air of a desert at dusk. Iris powder and transparent flowers cast light on the leather, while patchouli, dry woods and a skin-close musk linger long — a leather woody.

What you’ll learn from this formula

Leather built from texture, not weight

a soft suede in dry desert air

  • Main skill

    Softening the edges

The leather block of this formula is less than a tenth of the material, yet leather is what you smell. A single soft, suede-like base sits at its centre, and only traces of two sharper leathery notes give it shade. The rest of the formula does the work around it: dry woods and wide musks — about half of the material — lay down warm, dry air, so the leather reads as smooth, worn-in suede rather than a heavy, animalic hide. That is the lesson: soften a strong theme by surrounding it, not by turning it down.

  • Supporting skill

    Powdery softness

How flowers and iris give leather light: about two fifths of the formula is a transparent floral and iris block — a generous, airy jasmine material, clear lily-of-the-valley notes and several powdery violet-and-iris materials. Layered over the suede, this powder keeps the leather from sinking into darkness and lets it catch the light.

  • Supporting skill

    The power of traces

How a trace changes the whole: the perfumer’s secret is used in only the tiniest amount — a spicy, leathery bitterness that lays a thin film of dry soot over the suede. Without it the leather stays clean but flat; with it, it becomes leather dried in the desert sun.

Description

The first breath brushes past dry pepper and spice, and soon a soft, long-worn leather steps forward. It is not the sharp smell of new leather but a smooth, warm grain like suede warmed by the sun, with white petals glimpsed very faintly through it. As time passes, earthy patchouli, dry moss and wind-dried woods hold the leather from below, and at the end a warm amber and musk stay close to the skin for a long time, like sand after the sun has set. This is the impression our perfumer formed on smelling the reference fragrance, written in our own words. It is not a measurement and not the reference fragrance’s formula.
