Millésime Impérial* Type Formula StudyMillésel 95 · GA-020116

The sparkle of freshly squeezed lemon and bergamot, the salt carried on a sea breeze and the cool green of blackcurrant leaf, an iris glimpsed clearly between them, and a golden wood and clean musk that last. A salty citrus woody, like an afternoon by the sea as the sun begins to sink.

What you’ll learn from this formula

How a small block can name a scent

a salty sea air laid over a broad golden wood

  • Main skill

    The power of traces

People remember this kind of scent as a salty sea, yet in this formula the sea and green fruit block is only about a sixtieth. The body of the scent is built by a broad golden wood of about a third, and a single transparent woody material alone carries about a seventh of the formula. That is the lesson: the sea reads most clearly when a very small amount is scattered like air, and a small texture laid over a large base becomes the name of the scent.

  • Supporting skill

    Powdery softness

How to draw the powdery light of iris: most of the iris impression is drawn by three violet- and iris-like materials making up about a twenty-third of the formula, while the perfumer’s secret, real iris root, is only about a thousandth. That single drop lays the depth of earth and root over the powdery light, turning a painted iris into the memory of a living flower.

  • Supporting skill

    Tying off the trail

How to keep the sunlight for a long time: the bright citrus, about a fifth of the formula, fades quickly, but beneath it a wood of about a third and a clean musk and amber of about a quarter lay down a golden base, so the brightness carries into the drydown. The largest share of the musks, about a seventeenth of the formula, is one clean musk with a floral glow, and a salt-touched amber material leaves a warmth like seaside rocks at the end.

Description

The first breath opens with the bright light of bergamot and lemon peel. Soon the tartness of blackcurrant and the cool green of violet leaf skim lightly over that light — a start closer to sunlight breaking on water than to fruit. A little later the heart of this scent appears: a salty sea air. Through the salt of the sea breeze glimmers the soft powdery light of orris root, though some people barely notice the iris and remember only a clear sea and musk. With time, woods, a clean musk and a faint amber lay down a warm golden base that stays close to the skin for a long time. It suits daytime in spring and summer, and the seaside, especially well. This is the impression our perfumer formed on smelling the reference fragrance, written in our own words. It is not a measurement and not the reference fragrance’s formula.
