Green Irish Tweed* Type Formula Study

Green Irish Tweed* Type Formula StudyHighland Tweed 85 · GA-020079

A bright first breath like lemon and verbena, the cool green of freshly cut violet leaves, and beneath them the fine powder of iris, creamy sandalwood and a salt-touched amber. A green aromatic woody as clear as a hillside on a morning after rain.

What you’ll learn from this formula

How a scent called green is built on wood

a thin leafy edge between a fresh top and a broad woody floor

  • Main skill

    The power of traces

People remember this kind of scent as green, like cut leaves and violet leaves after rain, yet the whole green block is only about one fifteenth of this formula, and its sharpest leafy edge comes from the perfumer’s secret, used at about one three-thousandth. The largest part of the formula is not green at all: a dry floor of wood and moss makes up about a third, and a bright layer of citrus and aromatic herbs almost as much. The green works because it sits between them, lifted by the fresh top and set against the calm wood. That is the lesson: a scent can take its name from a thin edge, as long as the edge has the right ground to stand on.

  • Supporting skill

    Lifting the opening

How the opening stays clean rather than sweet: a single crisp, freshly cut material makes up about a tenth of the formula on its own, and together with the herbs and citrus peels it builds a sharp, airy first breath. Because that first breath is clean rather than juicy, the green that follows reads as leaves in cool air, not as fruit.

  • Supporting skill

    Tying off the trail

How the wood stays smooth and quiet: two dry, transparent woody materials make up about seven tenths of the woody block, so the floor feels like polished wood rather than a dark forest. A soft floral layer of about a sixth, where violet-like and iris-like materials give a fine powder, rounds it off, and a band of amber and musk of about a seventh keeps the whole shape close to the skin for a long time.

Description

The first breath is bright and clean, like lemon peel and verbena leaves rubbed between the fingers. A cool herbal note of mint and lavender passes by, and soon the green of freshly cut leaves and violet leaves steps forward. It is a green closer to the air of a meadow after the rain has stopped than to a watery sea. With time, the fine powder of iris wraps the green softly, and beneath it creamy sandalwood, a salt-touched amber and dry moss slowly rise. Rather than projecting widely, it stays close to the skin, quiet and composed, for a long time. This is the impression our perfumer formed on smelling the reference fragrance, written in our own words. It is not a measurement and not the reference fragrance’s formula.
