What you’ll learn from this formula

How a few drops of darkness change a flower

a night orchid over earth, chocolate and wood

  • Main skill

    The power of traces

The darkness of this scent does not come from weight. The whole block of dark fruit and earthy shadow is only about a thirtieth of the formula, and the warm, slightly animalic note that turns a bright bouquet into a flower of the night is used in one of the smallest amounts of all. Placed beneath a creamy floral heart that fills a little over a quarter of the formula, these traces change the expression of the whole flower. That is the lesson: darkness drawn with precision, not piled on.

  • Supporting skill

    Tying off the trail

How a deep base carries a dark flower: more than half of the formula’s weight sits in earthy leaf, smooth woods and musk. This wide floor lets the flower and the chocolate-like sweetness — less than a tenth of the formula — rest on the skin for a long time instead of fading or turning heavy.

  • Supporting skill

    Working with dilutions

How to handle a material too strong to weigh neat: the earthy, mushroom-like sulphur note is weighed as a dilution ten thousand times weaker, made in two steps. Taken at full strength, it would push earth and garlic ahead of everything else.

Description

The first breath brings juicy blackcurrant together with an earthy, truffle-like darkness, while citrus and spice flicker between them for a moment like embers. Soon a flower as thick and creamy as velvet opens — not a bright bouquet, but something a little sensual and dense, like a flower that blooms in the dark. With time, the bittersweet richness of dark chocolate and vanilla, and the smoke of resin and incense, wrap around the flower, while earthy patchouli and smooth woods spread wide beneath it. At the end, a warm musk stays very close to the skin for a very long time. This is the impression our perfumer formed on smelling the reference fragrance, written in our own words. It is not a measurement and not the reference fragrance’s formula.
