Description

In Brussels the horse chestnuts flower in May, and that is the week lily of the valley arrives at the market — small white bells on green stems, sold by the bunch and carried home in paper. This formula keeps the moment the bunch goes into a vase in a quiet, sunlit room, while the stems are still wet and the air is still cool. It opens green and dewy, with a quick flick of citrus. Then the lily of the valley steps forward, sweet and clean, resting on a soft rose, with a little white jasmine and the faint warmth of hyacinth underneath. It fades slowly and lightly into a powdery floral trace, with nothing heavy behind it. A delicate feminine floral for spring days, as happy in a fine fragrance as in a shampoo.

The classic lily-of-the-valley material in this formula is held at its legal limit, so it can no longer carry the flower alone. Two softer lily materials, together a little more than its own share, stand beside it, and a watery cyclamen material adds the wet freshness of a cut stem. Around them a rose floor of close to three tenths of the formula gives body, and a sheer jasmine adds light. What you smell is still one white flower — a muguet put together, like a bouquet, from several hands.
